Running from now until June 4th, Epic Game Store is offering Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for completely free. This collection includes Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, plus all the updates, DLC and expansions for both games. It’s a huge package, with hours and hours of looter shooter gameplay, playable solo or with up to four players.
The Borderlands series takes fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay, and layers it over a host of RPG systems for your character and your equipment. It doesn’t quite shine in either department enough to stand up against pure shooters or deep RPGs, but the blending of the two elements together makes it a fairly satisfying game.
The writing here is somewhat of an acquired taste, it’s aiming for an off-beat humorous tone, set across the backdrop of a ‘Mad Max’ style post-apocalypse. I wonder how the abundance of internet meme references from 2011 will resonate with players experiencing Borderlands 2 for the first time.
Perhaps now is a perfect time to team up with some friends for some online coop sessions, especially since you can all play together for free if everyone in your party jumps on this giveaway.
