Over on GOG, they’re running a giveaway over the weekend, where you can get Hitman: Absolution for completely free. As long as you add it to your account before the deadline, it’s yours to keep.

Like with all games on GOG, it’s completely DRM free, and you can either download an installer directly, or you can install it via their Galaxy client.

This isn’t perhaps the best example of what a Hitman game can be, where they dipped a little too far towards being a regular shooter, with cinematic action scenes and not as much scope for variety. It’s certainly not a terrible game, but it feels like developer IO Interactive somewhat lost sight of what players love about the Hitman games. This game doesn’t have as much of a focus on large sandbox-style levels, with many levels feeling much more linear.

IO Interactive got back on track with the subsequent 2016 soft reboot of the series and has just recently announced that the third entry in that rebooted series is on the way soon. These are much more open-ended games, with intricately designed maps, and tonnes of different types of interactions available.

But if you want to take a step back to an earlier entry in the series, which tried to do something different, this could be an interesting game to look at, and you can’t go wrong with free. I don’t think it was a particularly successful direction to take the series in, but you can probably still find some enjoyment here.

It’s available for Windows, and it will run on pretty much any modern PC or laptop with a half-decent processor and a graphics card from the last 5 years. Grab for free now from GOG.com.
