AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU over 20% faster than AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors were revolutionary in many ways thanks to their Zen 2 architecture but the reason why they were such a success was because of their gaming speeds. Now, with the Ryzen 5000 series boasting even more tech upgrades due to Zen 3 improvements, it seems those speeds have increased dramatically.

In a review by SiSoftware, it has been suggested that the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X could be over 20% faster than AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, potentially even reaching the 24% improvement mark.

Before we jump into the test results though, let’s first talk about why these Zen 3 chips are so good.

Based on the AMD Ryzen 5000 series reveal on October 8th we got an insight into how these processors perform in today’s games. We were shown eSports-ready titles such as League of Legends and CS:GO which saw over 20% performance improvement when using the Ryzen 9 5900X over the 3000 series. While you might think that this is to be expected due to the optimized nature of those titles, there were also big improvements in a variety of other more graphically intense titles such as Tomb Raider.

Without going into too much technical jargon, there were also claims of a +19% IPC overall improvement vs. Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 processors, as well as higher base and turbo clocks coming together to create that 20%+ performance increase.

Now, let’s talk about why you came here – the results from SiSoftware’s review of the Ryzen 9 5950X.

They saw up to a 24% increase in performance from the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in comparison to the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X (as shown by the graphs), which is a huge uplift considering how good the Ryzen 3000 series actually is. This, therefore, allowed SiSoftware to give the 5950X a score of 10/10 with a suggestion that this chip is the absolute pinnacle of desktop computing, leaving Intel in its dust. SiSoftware, however, also implied that if a higher channel interface or DDR5 support were to be introduced for the 5950X it could unlock even further potential for the chip.

Let’s end with some caveats though. These Ryzen CPUs were tested on an X570 motherboard with the latest BIOS installed and therefore, if you’re sporting a different motherboard or an older variant, may experience differing results.

All in all, these are extremely promising signs for the 5950X and the Ryzen 5000 series as a whole. We expect to see similar positive feedback come the release of the whole lineup and we’ll be sure to keep you updated if any other benchmarks get posted before they’re released into the wild.
