It’s time for another Windows patch and, therefore time for a raft of new problems. The latest Patch Tuesday – June 2020 comes at a time when many people still haven’t got the May 2020 (v2004) update yet – including me on one of my PCs at home.
But fear, not these bugs affect earlier versions of the Microsoft OS too, so don’t feel left out.
The worst of these could cause rebooting of your PC and at the moment, there is no fix available.
The patch started rolling out on June 9th, and Microsoft has already pushed out a fix that was causing issues with printing, but the fix appears to potentially cause problems with the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) providing the error below:
The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file (lsass.exe) might fail on some devices with the error message, “A critical system process, C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000008. The machine must now be restarted.”
These crashes will mean a reboot. Not ideal if you were in the middle of something important.
The bug affects May 2020 update (version 2004), November 2019 update (version 1909), May 2019 Update (version 1903), and October 2018 update (version 1809), so, well, it could affect you basically!
The affected updates are KB4557957, KB4560960, and KB561608. If you don’t know what any of this means, it’s not a big deal, but if you start experiencing crashes out of the blue with this error, keep your eyes peeled for a fix, which hopefully won’t be too long in coming.
