NASA’s sunset simulations show what it’s like on other planets

We love any opportunity to get a space story in here at PCguide and thankfully NASA have been putting their computers to good use creating a Youtube video (below) showing what it might be like to watch the sunset on various planets and moons around the solar system.

It’s all set to lovely calming music, so if you ever wondered what it would be like to see this most beautiful time while chilling out on Titan, or even Mars have a watch below.

The video is obviously a culmination of work around future planned missions. After all astronauts may soon be seeing the Martian sunset for real and NASA will be leaving no stone unturned when it comes to prep work.

The simulations were created by NASA Planetary scientist Geronimo Villanueva from Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland while building a modeling tool for possible future flights to Uranus.

He said: “The animations show all-sky views as if you were looking up at the sky through a super-wide camera lens from Earth, Venus, Mars, Uranus, and Titan. The white dot represents the location of the Sun. The halo of light seen towards the end of the sunset on hazy Earth is produced because of the way light is scattered by particles, including dust or fog, that are suspended in the clouds. The same is true of the Martian halo. Also on Mars, the sunset turns from a brownish color to a blueish because the Martian dust particles scatter the blue color more effectively

Anyway, the video is a nice soothing start to the week and something nice on the internet for a change.
