Netflix Are Trialing a Shuffle Play Feature

No more arguments over what to watch? Sold.

At this point in 2020, I’ve pretty much exhausted all of my obvious first choices on Netflix. And second. And third. It’s not helped by the fact my partner and I completely diverge when it comes to movie and tv show genres, except for maybe the odd mystery or Seth Rogan comedy. So, at this point in 2020, navigating Netflix has come to feel like more of a chore than anything else.

Enter Netflix’s newest feature: the ‘Shuffle Play’ button. AKA, the streaming service’s genius solution to evening disagreements and a tool to force you to finally stop rewatching Gossip Girl or Breaking Bad or whatever your safe bet series is.

According to The Verge, the company has been testing the feature since July, stating, “We run these tests in different countries and for different periods of time – and only make them broadly available if people find them useful”.

So if you’ve noticed a shuffle option while watching Netflix on your TV (where the feature is being tested) – potentially in a variety of forms, like the “Play Something” option spotted by The Verge – here’s your answer. And if enough people use it, we might all get some respite from the nightly “what should we watch” disagreement (or, equally, the anxiety of having to choose).

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited about the shuffle play feature. So much so I’m gonna ditch the PS4 we usually use to watch Netflix for my television’s app and give it a whirl tonight. Review pending?
