New Snapdragon 768G 5G processor announced by Qualcomm

While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 processor laden phones are only just starting to be released, they are already preempting the next generation of handheld devices by announcing the Snapdragon 768G.

This processor will see greater performance in relation to both CPU and GPU, as you would expect from ever-improving tech, as well as being more optimized for gaming. It’ll also feature an integrated 5G modem, carrying on the tradition from the 765 and 765G, removing the need for a separate cellular modem that chips like the Snapdragon 865 required.

Looking at that performance increase more deeply, Qualcomm has stated that they’ve been able to squeeze out another 15 percent of GPU performance compared to the already stellar Snapdragon 765, in addition to boosting clock speed from 2.4GHz to 2.8GHz, an impressive bump and one that is welcomed from intensive phone users.

When are we likely to see the Snapdragon 768G in action? Well, Xiaomi has unveiled their Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition handset as we speak, featuring the 768G, so if you’re a Chinese citizen, you can get your hands on that power boost right now. However, for the rest of the world, there will be a bit of a wait, possibly looking at a fall/holiday release of improved mobile devices?

Are the improved specs of the Snapdragon 768G worth holding out for? Or will the more current Snapdragon 765 do enough of a job for you? If you’re a serious mobile gamer, the improved GPU may sway you but if not the wait may be too much to ask.
