Old-school gaming classic to get TV remake

Anybody who knows me or follows me on social media will know what a tremendous retrogaming dork I am. I have a house full of OG consoles, emulation gear coming out of my ears and a couple of restored old arcade cans to boot (Pacman and Commando if you are interested).

One of my favourite/least favourite games of the golden age of gaming was Dragon’s Lair. Favourite because it looked and sounded amazing, least favourite because of it’s stupidly difficult twitch control system.

Nostalgia, however, is letting me see past its flaws and I was a little bit extra excited (maybe it’s because of the lockdown) when Netflix announced it is working on a live-action movie adaptions of the 80s classic gaming franchise.

Extra cake-icing if needed is that original creator Don Bluth is on board and Hollywood Heartthrob Ryan Reynolds is in talks to play Dirk.

It could be terrible but my suspicions are that it won’t be and the original interactive Laserdisc will be given the correct treatment.

There’s not a lot more detail at this stage, which may or may not be a good thing. There’ also no timeline for completion with the world of film and television pretty much shut down at the moment.

Hopefully, it will be enough to get persuade you to dust off your Daphne emulator and play the game for old time’s sake.
