On Tuesday, Apple announced this year’s annual September event. The event is usually used to announce new iPhone models but, while it was expected the event would be an announcement of their iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models, the name (“Time Flies”) lends itself to the suspicion they’ll be focussing on the newest Apple Watch.
A little later than usual – presumably in thanks to Covid-19 interruptions – the event will be held on September 15 at 1pm EST, as told by their interesting video announcement. The Verge assumes this to be an augmented reality Easter egg since it involves AR, so it might not be too much to expect some AR focussed updates this time around.
The company confirmed that we won’t be seeing new iPhones like we usually do this September (although they shouldn’t be too far behind). “Last year we started selling new iPhones in late September, this year we expect supply to be available a few weeks later,” said Apple CFO Luca Maestri in an earnings call with investors. But what will we be seeing at the Time Flies event?
The biggest speculation surrounds the Apple Watch Series 6, which will apparently have a faster processor, better sleep tracking abilities, and will monitor blood oxygen levels, according to rumors. Alongside this, they’re also expected to bring out a cheaper alternative to replace the Series 3.
According to The Verge, Apple is expected to announce a wide range of hardware this year, including the Apple Watches, an updated iPad Air, a smaller HomePod, and potentially a pair of over-ear headphones (AirPods, who?!). It’s also likely we’ll be getting a first look at the company’s ARM-powered Apple silicon Macs, if not at the event, at some point before the end of the year.
