You can now use your Olympus camera as a webcam

Fed up of waiting for online shops to get restocked? You may already have the perfect answer in a cupboard

As the great webcam shortage of 2020 continues, with units flying off the shelves as quickly they land as people continue to need to communicate from home, many of you have discovered that they already have a potentially better quality device than any webcam already.

Remember that DSLR camera you bought to take on vacation and rarely use for anything else? Well, you might just be able to use that as a webcam to either connect with your family or colleagues or even stream to a platform such as YouTube.

PCguide will shortly be doing a feature explaining how you can perform this trickery with all manner of DSLR cameras so watch this space, but the good news, if you own an Olympus camera, is that the company has just released software that allows you to now use yours in this manner.

Now Olympus may have announced recently that they are pulling out of the camera business, but for now at least, they are still supporting their user base.

The software you need to download is the OM-D Webcam Beta and is compatible with the following camera models:-

  • E-M1X
  • E-M1, E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III
  • E-M5 Mark II

So wait no longer for retailers to get webcams back in stock, give this a go and let us know how it works out for you in the comments below.
