Bose Announces Two New True Wireless Earbud Models Following Leak

The QuietComfort Earbuds and Sports Earbuds are set to make waves in the market

Following this week’s leak which gave us a clue into Bose’s new noise-canceling, wireless earbuds, the company announced their return to the true wireless earbud market with two new models.

Previously expected to be called the Noise Canceling Earbuds 500 and 700, the two new models have undergone an identity change in the past year and are now called the Bose Sports Earbuds and the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds respectively.

Available to preorder now, both models are set to perform fairly well with the QuietComforts a decent matchup for Apple’s AirPod Pros and the Sports (which don’t feature noise-canceling technology) a low-cost competitor for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.

Dropping at $279.95, the QuietComforts are arguably the more exciting of the two products. The price point is similar to that of its namesake, the over-ear QuietComfort models like the QuietComfort 35 II, as we expected. Boldly, the company claims that, with these earbuds, “you won’t get a more compelling listening experience from any other wireless earbud, whether it’s for music, podcasts, videos, or calls.”

They utilize Bose’s patented active and passive noise canceling innovations with internal and external microphones that monitor and cancel out sounds in your environment and in your ear canal and a “soft ear nozzle” designed to create an airtight seal to block out any unwanted noise. 

Thoughtfully, the earbuds are also designed for you to be able to hear outside sounds as and when you want (or need) to by giving you the option of a variety of settings so you can have a conversation without even taking your earbuds out. This is a unique quality and one that’s bound to drive competition into a frenzy. If you want to take a call, a microphone in the right earbud picks up the sound of your voice but cancels out the noise around you, making for easy and clear calls. 

Bose’s Volume-optimized Active EQ technology allows users to lower the volume of whatever they’re listening to without having to deal with tinny and small sounding sounds. Made with silicon and using Bose’s classic ear tip technology, the earbuds are both comfortable and destined to stay put. 

 

The QuietComfort Earbuds have a 6-hour battery life per single charge. For those days when you’re listening non-stop, they come with a powerful charging case that provides two additional full charges before it runs out of battery itself. But, just 15 minutes of charging breathes two hours of life back into the earbuds when you’re in a rush. 

To control the earbuds, there is an intuitive touch interface that allows you to adjust noise-canceling settings (left), pause, play and skip songs and take or decline calls (right). For more controls, the Bose Music app will “let you customize your noise cancellation favorites, manage your Bluetooth connections, set a shortcut, and much more,” and will keep your software up to date and offer new features in the future.

A predecessor to 2017’s SoundSport Free, the Bose Sports Earbuds are coming in at $179.95. Despite being less expensive and not noise-canceling, the Sports still pack a punch with the Volume-optimized Active EQ technology offering the perfect dose of motivation through music and StayHear Mx tips which will prevent them from moving or falling out while users work out – just like the QuietComforts. 

The Sports also benefit from touch control (the same as their noise-canceling counterpart) and the Bose Music app controls for other features. 

The Sports Earbuds benefit from a five-hour battery life (only an hour less than the QuietComforts!) and, again, come with a powerful charging case which offers two full chargers or two hours of battery life in just 15 minutes. 

 

Both of the new, true wireless earbud models look great, in my opinion. The price difference only accounts for the noise-canceling technology and one hour of battery life which, while we think this is totally worth it, means the Sports Earbuds are a definite bargain and a great low-cost option for those not too concerned with blocking out the world. Despite being out of the earbud game for a while now (around two years) it looks like Bose has come back with a vengeance.
