Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Graphics Card Review Roundup

The Embargo is lifted - Lets Find Out What The World Thinks About The RTX 3070

Today marks the date that the official embargo on Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Graphics card is lifted, meaning that we finally get to find out if this card is all it hyped up to be – whether it will be the 2080 Ti beater that so many claimed it would be, or if it is just the latest in a line of reliable budget orientated graphics cards.

One small thing before you dive into the reviews: Every single reviewer in this list is currently unaware of the specifications AMD are set to unveil in the reveal of their 6000 series graphics cards (the 6700, the 6800, and the 6900XT GPUs) which is set to go live tomorrow (at the time of writing this post). With that in mind, the reviews here will be judged positive or negative depending on their findings of the 3070 itself, rather than any direct comparison to AMD.

The Bottom Line:

Well, it looks like Nvidia has delivered on their promises, and it does seem that the RTX 3070 is going to be every bit the 2080 Ti beating graphics card that it has been hyped up to be.

Now, don’t go running off believing that statement means that this card is kicking the 2080 Ti down the road in terms of in-game performance in every game ever made. It doesn’t. But that doesn’t take away the fact that when the 3070 does fall short of 2080 Ti level rendering and speeds, we are only talking times that measure in fractions of a second, nothing that you are going to notice unless you had the two cards on two separate rigs running next to each other.

But the fact does remain that in plenty of modern gaming titles, especially ones that take advantage of the ray tracing and deep learning aspects present in the 3070, this card flat out beats the 2080 Ti in terms of performance. even in games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, you are going to see a quicker and more robust performance out of the 3070 than you would a 2080 Ti. This might not be a definitive, beat the 2080 Ti down the street performance, but its still faster.

The story is the same in the likes of programs that focus on productivity like Blender, where the 3070 outshines the entirety of the Turing generation in terms of rendering time. Across the board then, this card is delivering.

And it’s delivering at a massively reduced cost too. like I mentioned before, in the very few areas where the 3070 is pipped by the 2080 Ti, you can’t complain too much because the 3070 comes at a fraction of the cost of a 2080 Ti. So, the bottom line is this: If you are looking for a card that delivers 2080 Ti level performance, and can sometimes top even that, at a fraction of the cost for a 2080 Ti, then you need to look to the 3070.

Another brilliant and game-changing GPU from Nvidia. All that’s left now is to see if their stock levels can keep up with consumer demand, and to grab your own 3070 at 6am PT / 1pm GMT this Thursday, 10/29/2020!

Written Reviews:

Eurogamer – Positive
‘The RTX 3070 is undoubtedly a terrific graphics card. It delivers performance in line with the RTX 2080 Ti at a very reasonable asking price of $500, lowering the cost of entry to high frame-rate 1440p and stable 4K gaming substantially.’
Will Judd & Richard Leadbetter – Eurogamer

PC Gamer – Positive
‘This is the Ampere card which represents a genuine performance upgrade for the vast majority of us, at a price that we can almost swallow.’
Dave James – PC Gamer

WCCFTech – Positive
‘The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 has raised the bar on what to expect in terms of performance at $499 for now. It’s able to deliver high frame rate gaming at 1440p and Ultrawide 1440p while still being able to punch about in the 4K class.’
Keith May – Wccftech

Tweaktown – Positive
‘I think that the GeForce RTX 3070 is the new recommendation for 1440p and 3440 x 1440 gaming displays if you want to hit 120FPS+ and have some ray tracing tech turned on.’
Anthony Garreffa – Tweektown

Guru3D – Positive
‘Tthe GeForce RTX 3070 is simply put mightily majestic in performance. At that price, it cannibalizes the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti domain and territory. So from that perspective, you cannot go wrong here.’
Hilbert Hagedoorn – Guru3D

Hot Hardware – Positive
‘The GeForce RTX 3070 is the GPU to buy if you’re in the market for a graphics card in the $500 price range. It offers killer performance per dollar and an unmatched feature set.’
Marco Chiappetta

Tom’s Hardware – Positive (awaiting AMD results for final verdict)
‘The GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition is everything we expected. It’s a lower power card with a smaller footprint, and it basically trades blows with the previous generation king of the hill, the RTX 2080 Ti.’
