AMD is a big name in the world of computers – they just are. If you weren’t aware, they are Intel’s biggest competition when it comes to CPUs, with their Ryzen range proving immensely popular with PC builders, and they are Nvidia’s biggest competition when it comes to graphics cards – they are even providing the GPUs and CPUs for the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
So, when AMD announced that they have new hardware to show off, most of the PC world takes note. And, that is precisely what has happened. AMD has finally announced when we can expect to see the newest products in their lineup of PC based components.
First off we have the next generation of Ryzen processors. This is a big one, as the Ryzen line of CPUs has been edging ever closer to the goalpost of knocking Intel off of their throne when it comes to gaming superiority – and this could be the year that we see AMD finally produce a chip that performs better than Intel.
The new CPUs are set to run on what’s being called ‘Zen 3’ by AMD. What does this mean? Well, obviously the official specifications haven’t been announced just yet, but we do have rumors – and recently rumors have been proving very accurate. Apparently Zen 3 is going to be based on the 7nm+ process, with a possible 16 cores, 32 threads, and a 4.8Ghz boost clock (according to a leak of the upcoming Ryzen 9 4950X).
Obviously, that’s all based on hearsay, and could prove entirely false – but we will know for certain on 10/8/2020 when Dr. Lisa Su will be talking through the new Zen 3 CPUs with the world. The presentation will start at 17:00 BST, so at 18:00 CET and at 12:00 ET. We can’t wait to watch the new AMD CPU reveal, and hope you join us on the day for all the latest AMD CPU news.
Then there is the new line-up of AMD graphics cards. I already mentioned that AMD has been manufacturing the new GPUs for the Xbox Series X and PS5, and we are finally going to see what the RDNA 2 architecture on PC holds for us. Obviously, with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 3080, 3070, and 3090 they are going to want to bring their A-game, and it looks like that it was what we might get.
Obviously, we don’t know anything for sure. But again, we can look to rumors for a possible idea – those rumors suggesting that ray tracing and variable rate shading are going to be big on this card, and that cooling will be overhauled so that the cards can fully support 4K gaming.
Again, this is all just based on rumors and leaks, so take it with a pinch of salt. But, on the 28th of October (at the same localized times as the Zen 3 showcase) we are going to finally see RDNA 2 architecture presented within the Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards.
