Where To Buy The Next Generation PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X Consoles

We look at where you can buy the new PS5 & Xbox Series X/s

We are now at the point where the next generation of gaming is finally here, on our doorstep – and we are spoiled for choice! If the brand new GPUs coming out of Nvidia and AMD’s doors aren’t cutting it for you, then this article is going to outline exactly where you can buy the new Xbox series X, the Xbox Series S, the PlayStation 5, and the PS5 digital edition.

Make sure that you aren’t left in the dust when it comes to gaming, and that you have yourself a way of enjoying true ray-traced, 4k gaming experiences on either a new PS5 or Xbox Series X in the near future!

What Can We Expect From next Generation Consoles

There are a couple of big points that both PlayStation and Xbox have been circling around ever since the very first mention of the new consoles, and they are all very exciting.

Firstly, the new consoles are expected to bring 4K gameplay into the living room as standard. In the past, both Xbox and PlayStation have released models of their consoles that are capable of performing at 4K resolution, but the new PS5 and Xbox Series X are capable of running native 4K on all of their games as standard, right from the start.

Then there is the question of ray tracing. Ray Tracing is going to be huge in games from now on – we have already seen it demoed in the worlds of PC gaming, and now it’s entering the realm of consoles. The Xbox Series X will be capable of ray tracing, the PS5 will be capable of ray tracing – and apparently even the Xbox Series S will be capable of ray tracing to some extent in game!

And of course, there is the big talking point regarding the new consoles: The SSD.

The PlayStation 5 is equipped with a powerful SSD that has been tipped as making load times and rendering much quicker, meaning that in-game arenas and levels can be designed in much more intricate detail – which is great news for us who love complex and engrossing game worlds!

If all this sounds appealing to you, then read on to find out exactly where to buy PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles!

What are the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles?

There are four new big players in the new line up of modern games consoles

  • The Xbox Series X

This is set to be Xbox’s new flagship console – the unit that boasts the most power and performance out of any of the other consoles from the moment it launches.

The Xbox Series X itself looks like it’s going to launch with some seriously impressive hardware. It’s going to be fitted with a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU alongside a one terabyte NVME SSD, as well as having an RDNA 2 GPU that puts out 12 teraflops of graphical power.

Basically, this is the console that from a technical point of view) is going to offer users the most power in their console for the money they put down. And, despite the confusing naming scheme that Xbox has gone with, this will be the true successor the Xbox One, the next-generation Xbox that gamers have to look forward to.

  • Xbox Series S

This is the answer Microsoft had up their sleeves for everyone who didn’t want, or can’t afford the Series X model. The Xbox Series S is a more slimline, budget-friendly version of a next-generation Xbox console, but that doesn’t mean you can’t expect a next-generation level gaming experience on it.

The specifications of the Xbox Series S console have been released – and they are a pleasant surprise, especially when you consider how much the console costs. The Xbox Series S will have 4 teraflops of graphical power available on it, which will apparently offer 1440p gaming that supports up to 120FPS – all great to hear, but made even more impressive when you consider that the console is also touted to support ray tracing to an extent -making for a truly exceptionally performing budget console.

The trade off here is that it only has a 512gb SSD built into the console, and that it won’t have a disc drive on the console itself – so it will be digital releases only on the Series S from Xbox. Not a bad thing at all, when you consider the Xbox Game Pass that has been announced as teaming up with EA Play for the new consoles launch. Still, if you are tempted by the smallest Xbox to ever be released, you can find where to buy the Xbox Series S below.

  • The PS5

There hasn’t been as much information released regarding the PS5 recently, but what we do know about the brand new PlayStation console is very encouraging.

The PS5 is set to ship with a similar CPU to that of the Xbox Series X – a custom AMD Zen-2 based chip that will offer out 8 core performance, which has been clocked at a variable 3.5GHz frequency, which looks to be paired with a custom RDNA 2 GPU.

So far this all sounds very similar to the Xbox Series X – especially when you consider that both consoles are based on the same types of custom AMD made graphics cards and processors. However, you might be interested to learn that the GPU of the PS5 is touted as offering about 1.5 TFLOPs less graphical power – with the PS5 GPU clocked at 10.28 TFLOPs, with a variable 36 CUs at any point.

So, for those basing their decision purely on which console has the ‘bigger engine’, then the Xbox Series X is looking to be the favorite – but don’t count your chickens. Sony have been working long and hard on the new PS5 loading and compression, with the custom 825GB SSD hailed by developers as a total ‘game-changer’, allowing for much more possible when it comes to level design and asset integration – not to mention load times being dramatically increased.

As more information is released around the PS5, we will know more about what to expect from it in terms of performance and price, but so far it’s looking like a strong contender for the title of best next-generation console.

  • The PS5 Digital Edition

The PS5 digital edition has so far not received it’s due when it comes to promotion from Sony themselves. We do know however that this is expected to be the same console as the regular PS5, except that it will ship without a disc drive.

This might not seem like such a bad thing to some – if you are coming to the PS5 format without any previous ties to the brand then you won’t have any back catalog on physical formats that you want to play, and the PS Store combined with PS Now has an awful lot of the PlayStation greats lined up and ready to play as soon as you connect.

Plus, the launching lineup of PlayStation 5 games looks very impressive, with the likes of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, and Bugsnax all taking pride of place in Sony’s digital conferences. So, if you are looking to get into the world of PS5 and don’t have a physical library to worry about, then this could be a lower-cost way to do just that.
