The day of the AMD Ryzen 5000 Zen 3 processor reveal is upon us and with it, we’ll get to finally see the whole new CPU lineup, hopefully with some detailed specs on gaming performance, comparisons to Intel counterparts, and much more. In this final article from us pre-announcement, we’ll be giving you our final predictions of what’s in store come 12PM ET (5PM BST).
First up, as we have been calling them for a few weeks now, we expect AMD to completely skip the desktop variant of the 4000 series CPUs and move straight over to the 5000 series. This isn’t the usual go-to for AMD, with the natural process being to go sequentially with the model numbers but, we likely expect that the reason why they’ve done it this time is to completely differentiate the mobile/laptop CPUs.
This is probably in an effort to help consumers pick out the right processors and not get too confused. However, it could also have the opposite effect due to the 4000 series launching not so long ago, and people may wonder which one is actually the correct one to buy. Time will tell on whether this was a good move from AMD or not!
Next up, thanks to some leaks that have been floating around the web, we predict that we’ll finally see a consumer AMD chip with 5GHz base clock speeds. We dont expect that the more budget Ryzen 5 5600X to be sporting a base clock of this caliber but we do think that we’ll see it from the 5800X upward. This will be a huge improvement over the previous 3000 series generation and hopefully, if the 5GHz base clock does become the standard somewhat, it’ll be huge moving forward.
Looking at the title of the live stream – “Where Gaming Begins”, we also presume, we will see some gaming-related surprises that aren’t just related to actual performance. There could be possible integrations with Nvidia 3000 series GPUs, or what’s more likely, with their yet to be announced Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. This will probably be at the tail end of the event so keep a keen eye out for this!
Finally, our last prediction for the announcement is the huge performance jump over 3000 series CPUs in both single and multi-thread tests. Again, according to leaks, with the Ryzen 9 5900X we hope to see up to a 75% improvement over the Ryzen 7 3700X and a 15% improvement over the Ryzen 9 3900X. This will be huge for gaming enthusiasts and individuals who put these CPUs under intense load, providing a smoother overall experience.
