Stock of graphics cards and CPUs hasn’t exactly been plentiful on their respective launch days no matter which company is manufacturing them. This, unfortunately, seems to be continuing through into the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs with news breaking that ASUS, a third party card manufacturer, will have an extremely limited supply of their 6800 XT and no AIB partner cards on launch.
This message comes from ASUS Nordic’s representative David Hammer who has been wading through forums, landing on Sweclockers, to convey the less than desired message. He implied that ASUS’ full stockpile will be extremely paper-thin, selling out in minutes or even seconds. Here’s Hammer’s full message:
“It will be quite limited: more RX6800, fewer 6800XT … as with basically all graphics cards now, we expect that everything will be gone in a few minutes so you need to hang on the lock.
Then it is 1-2 weeks later until we start delivering our Partners cards, too early to say what the supply looks like there, but the demand will probably continue to be great.”
So, it seems not only is there going to be an extremely low number of 6800 XT units on launch day, AIB partners won’t be delivering their variants until 1-2 weeks later, a huge blow for those wanting one of these cards.
However, one plus to take away from this is that if you’re in the market for the more budget Radeon RX 6800, you could have much more of a chance of securing one.
More bad news comes from various forums like the AMD subreddit where followers chose to speak to European distributors directly to get an indication of their situation come 6000 series release:
“Yesterday I asked polish shop Morele.net about preorders and they confirmed that there will be option but they don’t know yet when. Also they said they expect problems with stock as it was with Nvidia gpus.”
There were some conflicting reports in recent weeks that stock could look a little healthier but due to the sheer amount of retailers and manufacturers themselves already trying to limit buyer expectations, it certainly doesn’t look good. At this point, we’re not surprised but all we can hope for is that there are more GPUs available than that of the RTX 30 series or they’ll be a huge amount of disappointed AMD fans.
